A Historic Tradition

We have been a fixture of Bishops Castle life for centuries. Our pub offers a truly traditional atmosphere—there are no fruit machines or piped music here. In winter, a good log fire keeps everyone cosy. The bar is traditional too, featuring a row of beer engines serving our own house ales. While we do stock Guinness, lager, and keg cider, the pumps are tucked quietly out of the way to focus on the real ale experience. Dogs are always welcome in the bar.

The Brewery

Our brewery was rescued and reopened by enthusiastic owners with brewing in their blood, representing the fourth generation of family brewers. We are a traditional brewery committed to quality. We only use the best quality malt and hops as ingredients for our beer. We never use added sugars or processed ingredients, which means you can always taste the quality of a fresh pint immediately. We are proud to be SIBA award winners, producing regular ales alongside a rotating “Ale of the Month.”

The Restaurant

We strive to provide great “home” cooked food. We source our meat from local Shropshire butchers who can demonstrate the provenance of their meats, with our leading supplier being the Battlefield butchers at Shrewsbury. Most vegetables are sourced directly from the local farmers market. The traditional wooden-floored lounge is cosy and comfortable for dining.

Our Welcoming Atmosphere

The pub has a very welcoming atmosphere and ticks the “town local” box in full. Feel free to drop in with your dog or cat; wet clothes and muddy boots are also welcomed, as are vegetarian and vegan diners (please call ahead to ensure a variety of options are available). Well-behaved children are welcome to enjoy the ambience. While we do not provide a specific children’s menu, we will try to cater for them food-wise, and for parties of 6 or more, we are very happy to provide cooked food.

Visit Us

We are open all day Sundays with food available from 12pm to 6pm. At lunch times we provide sandwiches and baguettes. Come and enjoy some of the very best beers, great wines, and ciders.
